Prices in USD. Research and source checking are capped at the hours shown; website and report assembly are included separately. Branches share the total research budget. Before you commit

Know what you’re
saying yes to.

The first inquiry is free. We agree on the research questions, starting materials, schedule, and written terms before any payment.

One family branch · two payments

$747.50 initially and $747.50 at completion. For larger or custom projects, the payment schedule is included in your quote.

Extra costs need your approval

Special record fees, additional paid archive access, travel, and outside specialists are discussed and approved before they are incurred.

Make the plan together

Your written terms set out progress check-ins, correction arrangements, and what happens if the project needs to pause or be cancelled. Ask about any of these before booking.

Included with every project

A family keepsake
you can actually explore.

The research is only part of it. Your family gets a place to discover the stories—and a copy to keep.

From your first question
to something you can share.

01 / A conversation

Choose a starting point.

We discuss your goals and existing materials, then agree on the branches, research priorities, price, and schedule.

02 / The investigation

Follow the evidence.

I compare records, keep a research log, and label uncertain connections. We agree on progress check-ins when we set the scope. If the evidence changes the direction, I explain the options before any additional paid work.

03 / Your family keepsake

Bring the story home.

Explore the website, read the report, and review the findings with me remotely. Then share the finished work with the people you choose.

When the next clue is somewhere else

Beyond the
online archives.

A family home. A cemetery. A record still sitting in a local archive. Some discoveries need someone on the ground.

  • Local photographs & record collection

Ask about photographs of a family place, cemetery visits, or retrieving permitted copies of local records. Selected requests across Western Europe may be possible through personal contacts, with location, access, and availability confirmed for each request.

  • A researcher where you need one

When a project needs local access, language knowledge, or specialist skills, I can look for a suitable independent researcher or photographer in that area—including abroad.

  • Travel by request

If a visit by me would help the research, we can discuss whether the location and timing are practical.

Optional work is quoted separately after access, availability, permissions, and timing are checked. You approve any specialist fees, record charges, travel costs, and coordination costs before they are incurred. Package handovers are remote; in-person presentations are not included.

Make it a family gift.

Tell me the occasion and date. We can plan a presentation that fits the person receiving it, once the scope and schedule are agreed. Printed books or other physical extras are quoted separately.

Have one very specific question?

A smaller question or a different mix of branches may suit a custom scope. Send the idea first; there’s no payment or commitment to inquire.

A personal beginning

Started with
my own family.

I’m Niklaus Baumann. Researching my Baumann and Miller families led me into original records, archive correspondence, and stories I wanted to preserve. Keepsake Roots grew from that work. I handle your project personally, with a clear scope and a trail back to the evidence. Explore a few of my own family discoveries.

A few things
to know.

What should I have ready?

A research question, a few surnames, and general places are enough for a first inquiry. You do not need an existing family tree or a paid subscription. After we agree on scope, we decide which dates, documents, and family materials will help. Keep sensitive details about living relatives out of the first message.

Can we talk before I decide?

Yes. If you prefer a short introductory call, mention it in your inquiry. We’ll arrange a time by email and discuss the question you want to explore. There is no charge or obligation for the first conversation.

When do I pay?

Payment follows an agreed written scope. The $1,495 One family branch package is paid in two parts: $747.50 initially and $747.50 at completion. Payment schedules for larger or custom projects are set out in their quotes.

How far back can you go?

That depends on the records, place, and family. We agree on a research question and time budget. A project may uncover new relatives or add depth to people you already know about. No particular generation count or discovery is guaranteed.

How do you check the information?

Names, dates, places, and relationships are compared against the available sources. Family recollections are identified as recollections; unresolved connections remain labeled as leads. A copied online tree is a starting clue, not proof by itself.

Which research sources do you use?

I combine subscription archives with public records, historical newspapers, and family materials. Archion’s digitized church books are one source I have used for German family research. We choose the appropriate sources for your project’s geography, dates, and question; the exact collections and access are confirmed when we agree on scope.

Do I need my own genealogy subscriptions?

You do not need a paid genealogy subscription to read your finished report or explore your private family website. Research through my existing relevant subscriptions is included. Special record charges or additional paid access are discussed before any extra cost. External archive links may still require a subscription to open the original record.

Do you use AI?

Yes. AI can assist with planning, organizing, transcription, and drafting. I review the findings against cited evidence before delivery. AI-generated text is never treated as a historical source.

Who can see our family’s information?

Your project website starts private. We agree on its viewers and what to include about living relatives before sharing it. Your family’s records or story will not be used in marketing without separate permission.

What if you cannot find the answer?

You still receive a report explaining the searches, relevant evidence, remaining uncertainty, and practical next steps. If a question needs specialist work beyond this project, I will explain that before proposing more research.

What happens after the first year?

Your package includes 12 months of website hosting. Continuing hosting is optional, with a renewal quote provided before the year ends. If you choose not to renew, the hosted website ends, but you keep the downloaded website, report, and tree chart. Saved copies remain usable without an ongoing Keepsake Roots subscription; external archive links may still need internet or paid access.

How will I hear about progress?

We agree on the timing of check-ins before work begins. Updates can include what has been found, records still being sought, and decisions about the next research step. Any extra paid work needs your approval first.

What if I need to pause or cancel?

Please contact me as soon as your plans change. Cancellation, refund, and pause arrangements are set out in the written project terms before payment, so you can review them before deciding.

Do the samples show how many ancestors I’ll receive?

No. They are deliberately small demonstrations of the layout and features. Your package provides an agreed scope and research time budget; the evidence determines how many relationships and stories can be established. The fictional sample families are not client projects or research results.

Can this be a gift?

Yes. Tell me the occasion and date when you inquire. We can plan the presentation together once the research scope and schedule are clear.

What happens after I inquire?

I review your goal and contact you about whether the project is a good fit. An inquiry does not reserve a slot, start research, or authorize payment. Detailed family materials are collected after we agree on scope.

Where would you like to begin?

A name, a place, or a family story is enough to start.

Tell me about your family
